The IT challenge

Throughout the project, IT developments will be the driving force towards the personalized models and the "virtual patient".

ITFoM will specify the requirements on hardware and software needed to support integration of the patients' data into personalized models accessible to the user.

A vast array of ICT developments must take place in order to make this medicine of the future a reality.

This will include the development of new techniques in the following areas:

• Rapid acquisition and evaluation of patient data

• Dynamic storage and processing of real time patient data into relevant mathematical models

• Data mining and analysis

• Advanced statistical Machine learning methods required to extract patient specific information and make predictions from models and data

• Specialized hardware and network architectures that will support projected data transformation and transmission rates

• Security and privacy of personalized models

• Visualization and Human Computer interface
